Preparation

Upon the passing of your loved one, the initial step involves cleaning the body and changing them into ceremonial clothes. This is often a traditional "Longevity Set" or their favourite set of clothing. During this time, the family engages a monk to conduct the "Encoffinment Prayers" to prepare the deceased for the wake.

The Wake (Days 1-3/5)

The wake is a time for family and friends to pay their respects.
• Chanting: Monks will conduct daily chanting sessions. The sound of the Sutras brings peace to the deceased and the family.
• Vegetarian Offerings: It is customary to offer vegetarian food to the deceased. This act symbolizes compassion towards other living beings and generates merit for your loved one.
• Incense: Family members and guests burn incense as a way to send prayers and thoughts to the deceased.

The Send-Off (Cremation/Burial)

On the final day, a grand prayer session concludes the wake. The casket is then transported by hearse to Mandai Crematorium or the burial grounds.
